What was public health like in medieval times?
Poor sanitation, there was only response to epidemics/big diseases, still no knowledge of illness
Why were monasteries health good?
Monks were more informed about health, they had a fresh water supply and purified it, everyone had to bath
What was still the main reason for illness?
Supernatural ideas-God sent+cured illness, astrology, minority groups blamed antisemitism, miasma theory based on observation
What were the most popular methods to cure the black death?
Was sin so king and the church organised special services, prayed a lot, Flagellants avoided by travelling to Flanders then back whipping themselves
What were other methods to cure the black death?
Miasma theory (link between illness and bad smell)
