What were Hippocrates main ideas?
Clinical observation-idea of examining patent and keeping record of it, theory of the 4 humours-body had 4 humours had to be balanced for good health, bleeding-to balance the humours
What did Galen do?
Used dissection of animals-caused errors not the same as humans, backed the design theory because he called God the creator so the church didn’t allow people to question his work
Why were the church a significant part in medicine?
Taught God sent/cured illnesses, controlled teachings only Hippocrates+Galen, banned medical research+human dissection
What were medieval hospitals like?
Links to monasteries+nunneries, no doctors only monks and nuns, herbal remedies and pray
Affect of Islamic medicine
More advanced than west, wrote books, Avicenna wrote cannon of medicine used until 1700s, treated+trained doctors
How did war help surgeons?
Improved amputation time, gave experience, new tools created, sharing through diagrams, improved ointments
