Public Health and EBM Flashcards
What is ‘sensitivity’?
How well the test detects a positive when the disease is present - the ratio of true positives to all cases
What is ‘specificity’?
How well the test detects a negative when the disease is not present - the ratio of true negatives to all people without the disease
What is the sensitivity formula?
True Positive / True Positive + False Positive x 100
What is the specificity formula?
True Negative / True Negative + False Negative x 100
What is the ‘positive predictive value’?
How reliable the test is when the disease is present - the ratio of true positives to all positives
What is the ‘negative predictive value’?
How reliable the test is when the disease is not present - the ratio of true negatives to all negatives
What is the positive predictive value formula?
True Positives / True Positives + False Positives x 100
What is the negative predictive value formula?
True Negatives / True Negatives + False Negatives x 100
How do you find the ‘post test probability of disease’ and what is it ?
100% - NPV, probability that you’ll get the disease with a negative test result
What is ‘prevalence’?
All people with the disease divided by the total number of people who took the test (False Negative + True Positive)
What is public health?
The art and science of preventing disease, prolonging life, and promoting health through the organised efforts of society
What are the three domains of public health?
Health improvement, health protection, and healthcare services delivery
