What is puberty caused by?
Male and female REPRODUCTIVE HORMONES
What is the MALE HORMONE and where is it produced?
TESTOSTERONE, produced in the TESTES
(stimulate sperm production)
What are the FEMALE HORMONES and where are they produced?
OESTROGEN, produced in the ovaries
PROGESTERONE, produced in the ovaries
FSH (follicle stimulating hormone), produced by the pituitary gland
LH (luteinizing hormone), produced by the pituitary gland

What does the ADH hormone control?
controls the concentration of water in urine
What does the TSH hormone control?
controls the release of hormones from the thyroid gland
What does ADRENALINE prepare the body for?
Fight or flight response
2 key hormones in the MENSTRUAL CYCLE?
-FSH~ causes an ovum to mature in the ovary
~ stimulates ovaries to produce oestrogen
-LH~ stimulates ovulation
What do contraceptive pills contain and what does it do?
Contains Oestrogen and Progesterone
INhibits the release of FSH so no eggs will mature, no ovulation

How does the pill work?
Contains Oestrogen+Progesterone to prevent ovulation + prevent release of FSH

Contains Oestrogen and Progesterone to prevent release of FSH
How does the barrier/condom work?
prevents the sperm from reaching the egg
How does spermicide work?
kills sperm
How does abstaining work?
not having sex or not having sex around time of ovulation
