What happens to boys during puberty?
Sperm production starts. Voice deepens. Testis grow and start to make sperm. Face becomes more mature. Hair grows on face, chest and under the arms. Pubic hair. Shoulders get wider. Stronger body smells.
At what age does puberty start and when does it finish?
Between the ages of ten and fifteen, physical changes start to happen in our bodies. These changes continue until the age of about eighteen. The time when these physical changes is start is called puberty. Girls usually start puberty before boys.
How is puberty controlled and what happens during it?
Puberty is controlled by chemicals called sex hormones that are released in our bodies. In girls, puberty starts when the ovaries start to produce sex hormones. In boys, puberty starts when the testes start to produce a sex hormone.
What are the side-effects of puberty?
Sex hormones make boys and girls more interested in each other. The hormones may also cause mood swings.
What else, apart from physical changes, occur?
Emotional changes also occur, as well as physical changes. The time when both these changes happen is called adolescence.
