PTF Flashcards
What can PTF be used for? (4)
Diagnosis
Monitoring disease progression
Outcome measure
Assess disability or impairment
What 2 lung volumes does PFT measure
Static lung volume
Dynamic lung volume
Define static lung volume
The amount of air the lungs can hold
Define dynamic lung volume
Measures the flow of air and how quickly it can be moved
Contraindications of spirometry (5)
Pneumothorax Recent surgery - especially to eyes chest or abdomen Recent MI Unstable angina Recent chest infection - within 2 weeks
Spirometry measures FVC and FEV1- describe these terms
FVC- forced viral capacity. The amount of air forced out after maximal inspiration
FEV1- forced expiration volume in 1 second.
How much air should be moved out of the lungs in 1 second
75% of FVC
How is FEV1 ratio measured
Use charts to measure how good FEV1 ratio is and should be within 80% of expected value based on age, gender etc
