Why are motivation, attitude, and need so important for learning to speak a second language?
The more the child’s learning style matches the teaching style, the better the development of L2.
What is the difference between other-directed and inner-directed styles for learning a second language?
Other-Directed: interpersonal approach-risk-taking, makes lots of mistakes, but gets feedback on errors
Inner-Directed: intra-personal approach-the non-risk takers, analyzers, who do not talk until they feel they can say things correctly
Are the two approaches equally effective in learning a second language
Example: 5 year olds talking on the playground have different way of talking
one child (interpersonal/other-directed)just talks while making mistakes while the other (intrapersonal/inner-directed) doesn’t learn as quick because he is afraid to make mistakes
