What is quality care?
Health care services that increase the likelihood of the pt’s desired health outcomes
What are the 6 domains of quality care?
Accessibility: Right care, received at the right time, in the right setting, and by the right provider.
Effectiveness: Care received that achieves the expected benefit and is based on the best available scientific evidence.
Efficiency: Care that is free of wasted supplies, times, equipment, ideas, and info.
Pt Safety: Care received is harm free.
Pt-centered Care: Care received is respectful, and responsive to individual needs and preferences, cultural traditions, and values.
Equitable: Care received regardless of gender, ethnicity, geographic location, and socioeconomic status.
What are the 3 types of adverse events?
Harmful incident.
Near miss (incident that didn’t reach the pt)
No-harm (incident that reached the pt, but w/o harm)
What are the key concepts in nursing?
Contribute to a culture of pt safety. Work in teams for pt safety. Comm effectively for pt safety. Manage safety risks. Optimize human & enviro factors. Recognize, respond to, and disclose adverse events.
What are the requirements for restraint use?
Reduce the risk of pt injury
Prevent the interruption of therapies like IV infusion, traction, nasogastric tube feeding, or Foley catheterization.
Prevent the confused pt from removing life-support equipment
Reduce the risk of injury to others by the pt
What are the types of restraints?
Belt Extremity Mitten Elbow Mummy
What do you look for after applying restraints?
Circulation and placement is to be checked hourly
What are entry/exit steps?
Handwashing upon entry Introduction of yourself Bed brakes on Check pt identification Side rails in the right position for the pt Bed in lowest position Call bell given to pt Handwashing upon exit
What does RACE mean?
Rescue anyone in immediate danger from the fire
Activate the nearest fire alarm and call the fire
department
Contain the fire by closing all doors
Extinguish all fires if safe to do so, otherwise, leave the area
How do you use a fire extinguisher? PASS
P (pull the safety pin)
A (aim low at the base)
S (squeeze the handle)
