A
- diagnose condition early in onset and prevent complications
- cannot stop onset of disease but can slow progression by treating early
- screen for scoliosis, self breast or testicular examinations

tertiary prevention
A
- interventions after disease has been diagnosed w/ goal of minimizing long-term effects
- manage condition and maintain quality of life
- ex: rehab after SCI, palliative care, support groups for HIV
