Neuroleptic malignant syndrome

A
  • Rare, life-threatening side effect of traditional antipsychotics
  • Muscle rigidity, high fever, sweating, unstable BP, altered mental status, autonomic dysfunction
  • Rapid onset, usually within the first 2 weeks (but can occur at any time)
  • Immediately discontinue drug to avoid potentially fatal outcome
