Neuroleptic malignant syndrome
A
- Rare, life-threatening side effect of traditional antipsychotics
- Muscle rigidity, high fever, sweating, unstable BP, altered mental status, autonomic dysfunction
- Rapid onset, usually within the first 2 weeks (but can occur at any time)
- Immediately discontinue drug to avoid potentially fatal outcome
