what is deviation from social norms

A

this is when people behave a certain way which goes against or is different to how we expect people to behave. norms are specific to the culture that we live in. for example, homosexuality used to be illegal.

this is when people can no longer cope with the demands of everyday life. this could be as simple as maintaining a basic standard of nutrition and hygiene or even holding down a job.

they said that there was key signs such as
- when a person no longer conforms to standard interpersonal rules such as maintaining eye contact
- when a person experiences severe personal distress

  • social anxiety - phobia of a social situation such as public speaking or using a public toilet

what are the behavioural characteristics of phobia’s

A
  • panic - this may include crying, screaming, or running away
  • avoidance - go out of their to avoid there fear which will effect there daily lives. for example, if someone has a fear of public toilets then they will limit the amount of times they are out the house for.
  • endurance - when they decide to remain with the phobic object for example, staying in the same room as a spider
