Define Science
Systematic study of behaviour based on observation, experiment and measurement.
Scientific Knowledge
Gathered by scientific method like a hypothesis and verifying / falsifying it.
Define Objectivity
Facts and is observable.
Sometimes isn’t relevant as just measuring observable behaviour is not in depth enough
Falsifiability
Whether a hypothesis or theory can be tested and verified or falsified.
Paradigm
General laws used to explain and predict the world.
Empirical
Info gained through methods based on direct experience.
Causality
Being able to establish a cause and effect relationship.
Null Hypothesis
Results down to chance, not significant.
Essay Plan
Intro:
- Define science and scientific knowledge.
Content:
- Go through each of the 5 criteria. Discuss through different approaches.
- Studies using Standardised Procedures so replicable.
- Evidence in lab ex. producing Qual/Quan data.
- Evaluate using criteria (DC, researcher effect/bias etc.) Importance of being scientific.
Conclusion:
- Make a judgement, answer the question.
