FT- Evidence of effectiveness

- family therapy very effective
- relapse rate reduced by 50-60%
- particularly promising if used at the start of a mental health decline
- NICE recommends FT for every schiz. diagnosis
- benefits both early and full blown schiz.
FT- Benefits whole family
Lobban and Barrowclough 2016 -
- effects are important as families provide bulk of care for schiz. people
- strengthening family function = less negative impact of schiz. on other family members
- strengthens family ability to support schiz. person
- wider benefits beyond positive impact on the identified patient
FT - Which matters most
- FT reduces relapse rates so families better able to provide care which has a huge economic benefit
- State doesn’t need to pay as much
- FT significant therapeutic benefit for schiz. and their family
- everyone wins
