What is the evaluation - McFarlane?
McFarlane concluded family therapy is effective for Sz - relapse rates reduced by 50-60%. It is particularly promising when mental health initially starts to decline. NICE recommends family therapy.
What is the evaluation - Barrowclough?
Therapy is not just for the patient but for the families that provide the bulk of the care for people with Sz.
What is the evaluation - Economic benefits?
Family therapy reduces relapse rates and makes families better able to provide the bulk of care so it has economic benefits. This reduces the amount of time patients need to spend in hospital and thus costs less to the economy.
