What is CBT?
A
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
- talking therapy that aims to change the way you think and behave
- therapist will help patient challenge automatic negative thoughts, unrealistic beliefs and cognitive distortions
- patient will be given homework

- depression
- anxiety

- short-term (about 12 weeks)
- problem focussed and goal orientated

What is behavioural activation?
A
-focus on activity scheduling to encourage you to approach activities that you are possibly avoiding; and then analyse why it is you are avoiding them.

A
- interpersonal therapy
- believes that psychological symptoms (such as depression) are because of underlying problems we have with interacting with others
- short term therapy that focusses on establishing and abolishing behaviours and thoughts that are making interpersonal relationships difficult
- tends to be role-play and not involve homework
