What is sport psychology?
techniques that athletes can use in competitive and training situations to remain controlled.
Confidence
the belief that you will be successful. Optimal confidence- can exhibit positive emotions, remain calm under pressure.
Motivation
the reason for participating in the activity. Athlete with high levels have a desire for success, willingness to take risks, and ability to increase their effort. Can be intrinsic, extrinsic.
Arousal
the amount of READINESS or ACTIVATION experienced when faced with tasks.
How to increase arousal levels?
elevated breathing levels, positive self talk, listen to music, act energetically
How to decrease arousal levels?
meditation, biofeedback, deep breathing, stress inoculation training
Concentration
the mental ability to focus on the task, with distractions. Can be achieved through visualisation, routine
Mental imagery
imaging something uplifting and energising.
