what is the schizophrenic mother
Frieda fromm-reichmann proposed the sz mother
a schizophrenogenic mother is cold, rejecting and controlling. And creates an atmosphere of tension and secrecy.
what is the double blind theory?
family climate is important in the development of SZ but emphasised the role of communication style within a family.
what is expressed emotion?
level of emotion, in particular negative emotion expressed towards a person with sz by their carers (usually family)
what are the elements of expressed emotion?
verbal criticism of the person, accompanied with violence
hostility towards the person, including anger and rejection
emotional over-involoement in the life of the person, including needless self - sacrifice.
what happens with high level of expressed emotion?
people can relapse, as they are vulnerable to stress and can be a trigger to their sz.
