what is schizophrenia ?
mental disorder, mainly in men
symptoms can interfere severely with everyday tasks
what is the diagnosis/classification of schizophrenia?
organising symptoms into categories based on which symptoms frequently cluster together.
we classify is ICD - 10 and DSM-5. They both recognise the sub-types of schizophrenia as their symptoms show to be inconsistent.
what are positive symptoms?
additional experience.
hallucinations - sensory experiences that have no basis in reality.
delusions - paranoia or irrational beliefs
what are negative symptoms?
a loss of usual abilities.
speech poverty - reduced quality of speech
avolition - loss of motivation, poor hygiene
what is comorbidity
when two disorders/conditions are present together.
disorders are diagnosed together, due to symptoms overlapping.
