Psychological explanations Flashcards
WR- Schizophrenia developing in late adolescence
Harrop and Trower- adolescence is commonly distressing, with 25% of ‘normal’ teenagers reporting characteristics, such as family conflict or egocentrism, that are also typical of psychotic disorders. These phenomena pass in successful psychological development but can cause issues for those more vulnerable in psychological maturational process.
What is meta-representation?
refers to cognitive reflection on thoughts and behaviours, allowing us to interpret our own and others behaviour.
Dysfunction in this area would lead to not being able to recognise our own thoughts and actions, explaining hallucinations and thought insertion.
Central control
A cognitive ability to suppress automatic responses while performing deliberate action.
Disorganised speech could result from lack of suppression, with thoughts directly triggering speech.
