Explain how a deviant superego could effect offending behaviour
If same sex parent is criminal after a child has identified and resolved their Oedipus or Electra complex with them, their behaviours and morals are adopted.
Explain how an overdeveloped superego could effect offending behaviour
Excess feelings of guilt could lead to committing a crime to reduce these feelings
Explain how an underdeveloped superego could effect offending behaviour
Doesn’t feel guilt so their is no brake on deviant behaviours. ID dominates.
What is the role of defence mechanisms?
Designed to protect EGO and stop the ID / Superego being dominant
What are the 3 types of defense mechanisms?
Displacement
Sublimation
Rationalisation

Explain Freud’s maternal deprivation hypothesis
Seperation with primary care giver in early life leads to maternal deprivation. This can lead to problems forming attachments and can lead to delinquent behaviour.
