What makes up ID? (2)
Thanatos- self destruction : pressure builds up until we can’t control it
Eros- preservation & enjoyment of life
Unconscious Forces
Ego, Superego, ID
Ego- conscious, mental activity we know about- thoughts, perceptions
Superego- preconscious , could be aware of- memories, stored knowledge
ID- unconscious, unaware of - fears, immoral wishes, traumatic experiences
Ego’s Defence Mechanisms (3)
Displacement- take anger out on person/ object, not actual target of aggression
Denial/ Repression- ignore emotions, push them down so not affected by them
Sublimation- channeling aggression into other acceptable behaviour
