The Oedipus Conflict
Boy will develop incest feelings towards his mother and hatred towards father.
Fears father as a rival and fear of castration.
Little Hans- fear of horse biting him represents fear of castration and father.
Eventually boy will identify with father instead and internalise his behaviour.
Electra complex
Girl develops hatred towards mother and penis envy of father.
Believes mother is a love rival and has castrated her.
Eventually understands she won’t ever have a penis and begins to identify with mother.
