Behaviourist Approach AO1 Flashcards
Suggests?
Behaviour is acquired and maintained through learning (operant and classical conditioning) and reinforcement.
Behaviour is learned from experience.
All minds born a blank slate- Tabula Rasa
Only observable behaviour is measurable scientifically and only these behaviours should be studied
Classical conditioning formula
Unconditioned stimulus» unconditioned response
Neutral stimulus» no response
During conditioning:
UC stimulus and N stimulus»_space;
Unconditioned response
Conditioned stimulus»_space; Conditioned response
Operant conditioning?
Positive and negative reinforcement
Positive: rewarded when desired behaviour conducted to reinforce so it happens again
Negative: when behaviour not conducted, punished to increase frequency of desired behaviour

Rejects introspection
Claims concepts are too vague and difficult to measure.
Mental states are not observable so therefore can not be measured.
