What is the psychodynamic approach?
A
A perspective that describes the different forces (dynamics), most of which are unconscious that operate on the mind and direct human behaviour and experience.

What is the conscious?
A
Freud suggested refers to the part of the mind we know are aware about.

What is the preconscious mind?
A
Contains thoughts & memories that are not currently in conscious awareness but can be accessed if desired.

What is the role of the unconscious mind?
A
- part of the mind we are unaware of but continues to direct much of our behaviour and influence our personality.
- can contain threatening & disturbing memories which are accessed during dreams or through parapraxis.
