Psychodynamic Flashcards
Oral fixation?
In the oral stage of child hood, child’s needs are overly or not sufficiently gratified, resulting in oral fixation. Leads to low self esteem and overdependency, and ultimately depression.
Loss of loved one?
Losing a loved one causes introjection (identifying with loved one). Results in talking to self about negative feelings towards loved one, resulting in feeling guilty. Mourning then follows, where in normal people, memories are recalled and a separation is made. In those with depression, emotional bonds can’t be broken so anger continues to be turned inwards on self, resulting in depression.
Attachment theory?
Attachment theory suggests that if a child is deprived of a loving attachment to mother figure in early childhood, depression in later life.
