A
- boys have feelings towads mothers
- father = rival/threat
- castration anxiety = father will find out
- identification = boy makes father an ally by becoming like him

A
- girls feel in competiton with their mother for fathers love - girls identify with mother
- taking on a female gender and replaces their desire for a penis with a baby

- male/female children want to be accepted by the same-sex parent and not be seen as a threat
