psych test - research methods 9.1.25 Flashcards
what is randomisation and standardisation?
randomisation - the use of chance methods to reduce the researchers unconscious biases when designing an investigation
standardisation - when procedures are exactly the same for all pp involved in the study
what is a directional hypothesis
states the direction of the difference or relationship
what is a non directional hypothesis
does not state the direction of the difference or relationship
what are the four types of experimental methods
lab
field
natural
quasi
what is a quasi experiment
the independent variable occurs naturally pp cannot be allocated
how to write a consent form
aim
the use of pp data
pp rights
sign and date below
3 extra types of consent
presumptive consent - a similar group of pp are asked if the study is acceptable
prior general consent - they have consented to multiple studies including some which may involve deception
retrospective consent - they are asked for consent after the study has taken place
what types of observations are there?
participant - researcher involved
non - participant
overt - pp are aware they are being observed.
covert - pp are unaware
controlled - controlled setting
naturalistic - natural setting
what is interobserver reliability?
the extent of which two observers agree when assesing or observing behaviours.
what sampling methods can be used in observations
event - how many times a behaviour occurs
time - behaviour within pre established time frame
