drive reduction theory
explains that, with few exceptions, when a physiological need increases, so does our psychological drive to reduce it.
-way for body to maintain homeostasis
- Likewise, if our body’s temperature cools, our blood vessels constrict (to conserve warmth) and we feel driven to put on more clothes or seek a warmer environment (FIGURE 9.1).
The Yerkes-Dodson Law (1908)
-need the right amount of arousal to preform well, ex basketball game, too little is bad but too much is also bad

Maslovs hierarchy of needs
physiological needs—} safety and security needs–} acceptance needs—} self esteem needs—) self actualization—}AC4P

set point v settling point
Explanation: set point is biological and physiological and settling point is psychological criteria of weight loss. During weight loss programme, dieters actually go far down the value of set point, and thats their settling point. This is done by hunger control and increasing metabolism .
