Psych Deck Flashcards
What are the 4 types of brain waves
Beta- awake and concentration
Alpha- daydreaming (lower frequency then alpha)
theta- slower/lower frequency than alpha waves
Delta- slower than theta (deep Sleep or Coma)
Describe what are depressants and give 2 examples
Depressants- drugs that lower your body’s basic functions and neural activity, lower CNS, Decrease HR, decrease BP
Examples
Barbiturates- used to induce sleep or reduced anxiety, depresess CNS, Anesthesia
Benzodiazepines- commonly prescribed suppressant, sleep aids, seizers
- enchances response to gaba
- they binds to the gabaA receptor complex, that increases sensitivtyy of receptor complex
what is parallel processing?
processing multiple sources of information that occurs at the same time. Like perceiving auditory and visual events together
What is serial processing ?
Processing one piece of information at a time, such as memorizing a list item by item
what is top down processing vs bottom up processing
Top down is processing driven by our beliefs, ideas, and information we have stored in our brain
Bottom up processing- is stimulus driven processing which is done by sensory input.
the limbic system is made of
amygdala, hippocampus, hypothalamus, and cingulate gyrus
