firmly held false belief, not part of normal cultural beliefs (plausible or fantastical)
bizarre- could never happen
grandiose- inflation of self worth (type of god)
paranoia/persecutory- anxiety of harm
somatic- physical symptom but thought content off

What is the difference between hallucination and illusion?
illusion- misperception based on stimuli (calling name in crowd of people)
hallucination: perception of something without external stimuli
What does it mean if a patient has good insight of their mental health?
if a patient has hallucinations, they are aware of the hallucinations/delusions
What is diagnostic criteria according to DSM-IV
indicates symptoms that must be present/duration and symptoms, disorders, and conditions that must be ruled out in order to qualify for particular diagnosis
What is generalized anxiety disorder?
excessive anxiety or worry for AT LEAST 6 MONTHS

what is panic disorder?
recurrent, unexpected panic attack- abrupt surge of intense fear or discomfort
4 OR MORE SOMATIC SYMPTOMS or fears (i.e., palpitation, shaking, SOB, CP, n/v, n/t,…)
followed by a month of concern or worry of have another attack, or doing behaviors to avoid having another panic attack
*Not substance related, not in relation to fear of social, obsessive, traumatic, separation anxiety

anxiety about and or avoidance of situations where help may not be available or where is may be difficult to leave the situation int he event of developing a panic like symptoms/attack (crowds, shopping malls

social phobia, excessive fears of scrutiny, embarrassment and humiliation in social or performance situations that lead to distress

What is obsessive compulsive disorder
obsession- obtrusive or unwanted repetitive/persistent thoughts, images, or urges that cause marked distress or anxiety
compulsions- rituals or repetitive behaviors compelled to perform in order to reduce the distress triggered by obsession
