How to treat severe depression with suicidal thoughts if two antidepressants have not been sucessful- which medication would you add or try?
Lithium- evidence that Lithium reduces suicide risk.
A patient with severe depression is not eating or drinking and is refusing oral antidepressants- what can you try ?
consider ECT- antidepressnats and lithium do not come in IM form
- A 37 year old man has been admitted to hospital under section 2 of the mental health act. He is psychotic and extremely agitated. He is given IM haloperidol as rapid tranquilisation. He develops extra-pyramidal side effects, and so is given oral Procyclidine.

a. Anticholinergic- thought to balance the dopamine:acetylcholine activity in the basal ganglia.
