Summarise the epidemiology of psoriasis.
In most developed countries, prevalence is between 1.5% and 5.0%; there is some evidence that prevalence is increasing in these regions. The mean age of onset is 28 years, with equal distribution between men and women.
Recognise the presenting symptoms of psoriasis. Recognise the signs of psoriasis on physical examination.
Skin lesions
Skin discomfort
Plaques
Psoriatic lesions are red, inflamed, silvery-white scaly, and circumscribed papules and plaques; often affecting elbows, knees, extensor limbs, and scalp, and, less commonly, nails, ear, and umbilical region.
Identify appropriate investigations for psoriasis and interpret the results.
Usually no tests are necessary.
