Define acne rosacea.
Rosacea is a common chronic disorder of the skin:
- Redness
- Flushing
- Telangiectases
- Roughened skin
- Rhinophyma
- General inflammation that can resemble acne
What is the aetiology of acne rosacea?
The underlying cause is currently unknown. Triggers include:
- Climatic exposures (sunlight)
- Vasculature
- Chemical and ingested agents (amiodarone, spicy foods, corticosteroids)
- Inflammation
What are risk factors for acne rosacea?
Fair skin
Hot baths/showers
Temperature extremes
Sunlight
Emotional stress
Women
Age 30-50
Summarise the epidemiology of acne rosacea.
5% of the population
What are the signs and symptoms of acne rosacea?
Flushing
Erythema
Papules and pustules
Telangiectases
Ocular manifestations
Plaque formation
Facial distribution
What investigations should be considered for acne rosacea?
CLINICAL DIAGNOSIS

What is the management for acne rosacea?
Topical antibiotic (metronidazole) and/or topical anti-inflammatory
Consider laser treatment for telangiectases.
What is the prognosis for acne rosacea?
Most people don’t really care about it, sometimes it goes away with treatment
