Pseudomonas Flashcards
What is th emetabolism of Psuedimonas?
Oxidase-Positive, Obligate Aerobe
can use nitrite for respiration
Where would you like to find psuedomonas?
it likes water and plant material
What type of pigment does psuedomonas produce?
green pigment
green pus
produce a grape like aroma
Which species of psuedomonas cause the most infection?
aeruginosa
is psuedomonas oppurtunistic?
yes, it is an oppurtunistic pathogen
very antibiotic resistant
people with cystic fibrosis are very susceptible and burns
What are the virulence factors of psuedomonas?
- Pili:
- Polysaccharide capsule
- Exotoxin A:
- Exoenzyme S:
- Cytotoxin:
- Extracellular proteases: (proteases and hemolysisns)
- Phospholipase:
- Endotoxin:
What is the function of Exotoxin A?
close to diphtheria toxin
irreversibly blocking protein synthesis
What is exoenzyme S
an effector protein that is injected into cells by a Type III secretion system encoded on the chromosome of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Its target protein is a small G protein (Ras), and ADP ribosylation of this protein results in collapse of the cytoskeleton.
what are the extracellular proteae?
LasB elastase
LasA eleastase
alkaline elastase
breaks down connective tissue
What are the hemolysisn?
phospholipase C
Rhamnolipid
breaks down phospholipids
