This scandal took place in France from 1677 to 1682. The result of this scandal was the suspicion of over 442 individuals, 218 arrests, as well as the execution of 36 people.
The Affair of the Poisons.
This person was a fortune teller, commissioned poisoner, abortion provider, and sorcerer. She was specifically known for her performances of black masses while an advisor and medical practitioner for the French King Marquise de Montespan. She would later be executed for witchcraft during The Affair of the Poisons.
Catherine Deshayes, or ‘La Voisin’.
This person was an ordained Catholic priest during The Affair of the Poisons. He worked with La Voisin in conducting black masses, providing incantations during the invocation of Satan. At the end of The Affair of the Poisons, he was sentenced to imprisonment for life.
Etienne Guiborg.
This Satanic movement started during the French Revolution, specifically during 1800s France. Here, Satanism divided into the two schools of rational and esoteric.
Classical Satanism.
Originally named ‘The Sabbatic Goat of Mendes’, this Satanic icon was created by French occult author and magician, Eliphas Levi (Eli-fis leh-vee). This icon first appeared in Levi’s book “Dogma and Ritual of High magic”.
Baphomet.
This man was a wealthy English writer, mountaineer, magician and occultist. He later created a philosophy around “Thelema”, promoting magickal philosophy as a part of other organizations. He is also contributed with writing (or being given in his own claims), “The Book of the Law”.
Alastair Crowley.
This organization is an international and fraternal religious organization. It was founded by Carl Kellner in the early 20th century, and later contributed to by Franz Hartmann and Theodor Reuss. Later, with leadership under Alastair Crowley, the organization implemented ritual, sexual, and gnosis magick.
Order Templi Orientis.
While the majority of Satanic groups, rituals have no supernatural or paranormal effect. However, it is believed to have an effect on the practitioners. The glamour, psychodrama, etc, is said to lead to this type of result, felt by the ritual’s participants.
Catharsis (a psychological released of strong, repressed emotions).
Originally named Howard Stanton, this man was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1930. He is described as the founder of modern Satanism and was credited with the creation of the Magick Circle, The Order of the Trapezoid, and the Church of Satan. He passed away in 1997.
Anton Szandor LaVey.
This book was released by Anton LaVey, detailing his essay, observations, and rituals.
The Satanic Bible.
This book was released by Anton LaVey, detailing his teachings of lesser magick.
The Satanic Witch.
This book was released by Anton LaVey, detailing his teachings of greater magick.
The Satanic Ritual.
Church of Satan member, Michael Aquino left the church in 1975. He claimed he was visited by the Egyptian deity, Set, then creating this initiatory organization.
Aquino believes Set was the only God not created by man, that Set rebelled from the lawful world, inspiring mankind to do the same. Additionally, that Set represented the source of human potential ro reach perfection, being renamed to Satan by later cultures.
The Temple of Set.
This organization was based of teachings by Carl Jung but was created by former scientologists Mary Ann MacLean and Robert de Grimston.
The organizatino began in London, but moved to the Bahamas and to Mexico, where they believed in four “Great Gods of the Universe”. These gods represented human traits and one was taught to embrace each one to different degrees, creating one harmonious person.
