Protist
Blanket category covering multiple supergroups to describe organisms that do not fit into plant, animal, or fungi branches
Archeaplastida
Consists of rhydophyta, or red algaes, and chlorophyta, or plants and green algae. Likely underwent secondary endosymbiosis, allowing photosynthesis.
Excavata
supergroup of asymettric organisms with a groove on the body. many flagella.
Diplomonads
group of excavata with multiple flagella, and 2 nuclei. Lack mitochondria capable of synthesizing ATP
Parabasalids
group of excavata similar to diplomonads. Mitochondria can only produce H2, and are prevalent as an STD
Euglenozoans
group of excavata that are aquatic, single celled and free floating. partially light sensitive, and capable of heterotrophic or photosynthetic behaviour. allowed via secondary endosymbiosis
SAR supergroup
supergroup notable for undergoing secondary endosymbiosis. contains stramenopiles, alveolates, and rhizarians. extremely large group.
Stramenophiles
member of the SAR supergroup. contains diatoms, brown algae, and oomycytes
Diatoms
Stramenophile. hard silica shelled organisms with a geometric structure. Common in algae blooms
Brown Algae
Stramenophile. Plantlike multicellular organisms that live in the water
Ooomycytes
Stramenophile. Funguslike obligate parasites/decomposers, lack plastids and feed off decomposition
Alveolates
Member of the SAR supergroup. have large sacks under the membrane

member of the SAR supergroup. Have a central divot between cellulose plates with 2 flagellum wrapped. E

member of the Alveolates. uses sacs to drive a pilum into target cells, which it invades as a parasite through
ciliates
member of alveolates, use many fine hair (cilia) to move and feed
Unikonta
Diverse supergroup containing animals, fungi, and some plants. includes associated protists
Amebozoans
Member of unikonta, represented by slime molds. Can differentiate tissues, and aggregate into large multicellular masses for reproduction
Opisthinkonts
Member of unikonta, diverse, and closer to fungi
