How do sarcodines move?
Pseudopods (false feet) - very slow
How do pseudopods work?
The membrane stretches out to move the organism.
Do sporozoans move?
No, they do not move
What is the protist that causes Malaria?
Plasmodium
How is Malaria spread?
The disease is carried by mosquitoes
What are the four features of slime molds?
- Very colorful, dry, and crunchy
- Feed on decaying debris
- Move with pseudopods - slow
- Found in shady/damp areas
How does water mold affect fish? (2 things)
- Can kill fish
- Grows on fish
How did water mold affect the Irish?
Created the 1849, Irish potato famine which wiped out the potato crop, leaving many dead or fleeding the country. (1 million for each)
