What are Protista also called?
Protoctista
Examples of protista
algae, plankton, seaweeds, amoeba, fungus-like slime moulds
What are protista the ancestors of?
They were the ancestors of the fungi, animals and plants
Where can they be found?
Almost anywhere water is present, such as damp soil, decaying organic material, puddles, pools, ponds, lakes and oceans.
They can also be found on or int eh mud at the bottom.
What are protists often considered to be?
To be simple organisms that cannot be identified with any of the other four kingdoms
What are the 2 main features of protists?
- They have a membrane enclosed nucleus. (true nucleus)
2. They are mainly single celled, but those that contain many cells are simple organisms (i.e. they do not form tissues)
