Protist, Plant, Fungi Flashcards
Protist
an organism that belongs to the kingdom Protista
Decomposer
an organism, especially a soil bacterium, fungus, or invertebrate, that decomposes organic material
Heterotroph
an organism that gets food by eating other organisms or their byproducts and tat cannot make organic compounds from inorganic materials
parasite
an organism that feeds on an organism of another species and usually harms the host
Eukaryote
an organism consisting of a cell or cells in which the genetic material is DNA in the form of chromosomes contained within a distinct nucleus
Fungi
a group of spore producing organisms feeding on organic matter
Spore
a minute, typically one-celled, reproductive unit capable of giving rise to a new individual without sexual fusion, characteristic of lower plants, fungi, and protozoans.
Lichen
slow-growing plant that typically forms a low crusty, leaflike, or branching growth on rocks, walls, and trees
Nonvascular plant
they do not have conducting tissue
Vascular plant
a plant that has conducting tissue
Gymnosperm
a plant that has seeds unprotected by an ovary or fruit
Angiosperm
a plant that has flowers and produces seeds enclosed within a carpe
host
an animal or plant on or in which a parasite or commensal organism lives.
photosynthesis
the process by which green plants and some other organisms use sunlight to synthesize foods from carbon dioxide and water
Cellular respiration
a set of metabolic reactions and processes that take place in the cells of organisms to convert biochemical energy from nutrients into adenosine triphosphate
