Protein synthesis - Transcription Flashcards
Sentence 1
The first stage of protein synthesis is transcription.
Sentence 2
This occurs in the nucleus of the cell.
Sentence 3
During this stage, the enzyme RNA polymerase will read off the template strand of DNA.
Sentence 4
This enzyme will grab free nucleotides and add them to the mRNA chain by complimentary base pairing; to where guanine on DNA would pair with cytosine, and adenine on DNA would pair with uracil.
Sentence 5
The enzyme RNA polymerase will read the triplet code which is the set of 3 nucleotides on DNA that code for an amino acid, and produce the codon, which is the set of 3 nucleotides on mRNA that code for an amino acid.
Sentence 6
Whe the enzyme RNA polymerase reaches the end of the gene, it and the mRNA will detach.
Sentence 7
The two strands of the DNA molecule will reform by hydrogen bonding.
Sentence 8
The mRNA molecule will leave the nucleus through the nuclear pores.
