Adverse Effects

- Nephrotoxicity (reversible)
- Vestibular and ototoxicity (irreversible)
NOTE: Vestibular toxicity is the most important aminoglycoside toxicity

Indications
A
- GN infections when alternatives do not exist
- UTIs
- used in low doses for synergy with β-lactams or with vancomycin for the treatment of serious infections

Contraindications
A
Pre-existing hearing loss and renal dysfunction
