Protein Synthesis Flashcards
1
Q
What are the function of the ribosomes
A
Synthesise proteins
2
Q
What do carrier molecules do
A
Bring specific amino acids to add to the growing protein in the correct order
3
Q
How are the proteins able to do their specific job
A
By being joined together in a unique sequence and then folded into a unique shape
4
Q
What are the two stages of protein synthesis
A
Transcription and translation
5
Q
What happens to the base sequence of DNA when a gene is to be expressed
A
Copied or transcribed into mRNA
6
Q
What is the process of transcription
A
- Two strands of the DNA double helix are unzipped
- Enzyme RNA polymerase attaches to the DNA
- RNA polymerase moves along the DNA strand
- Newly formed strand of mRNA is now ready to leave and travel to the ribosome
7
Q
Where does transcription take place
A
Nucleus
