protein synthesis Flashcards
1
Q
what are the organelles involved in protein synthesis
A
ribosomes, ER, golgi apparatus
2
Q
why are proteins synthesised
A
for internal use and for secretion
3
Q
what is the process of protein production
A
- proteins are synthesised on the ribosomes bound to the ER
- they then pass into its cisternae and are packaged into transport vesicles
- vesicles containing the newly synthesised proteins move towards the golgi apparatus via the transport function of cytoskeleton
- vesicles fuse with cis face of golgi apparatus and proteins enter, proteins are structurally modified before leaving the golgi apparatus in vesicles from its trans face
- secretory vesicles carry proteins that are to be released from the cell. vesicles move towards and fuse with cell surface membrane, releasing their contents by exocytosis. some vesicles form lysosomes, contain enzymes for use in the cell
