Protein Synthesis Flashcards
3 steps in Protein Synthesis
- Transcription
- RNA Processing
- Translation
Carries the message from DNA, which control all of the cellular activities in a cell
Messenger RNA (mRNA)
If a cell requires a certan protein to be synthesized, the gene for this product us turned
on
RNA polymerase will look for a — to attach to and initiate unzipping
promoter region
The promoter region is the part of the DNA that has
thymine-adenine-thymine-adenine (TATA) sequence
thymine-adenine-thymine-adenine sequence also known as
TATA box
transcription also makes two more RNA
tRNA and rRNA
There are – codons possible, but there are only – amino acids
64, 20
the amino acid alanin which is coded for by 4 codons
GU, GCC, GCA, and, GCG
Is one of the smallest of four types of RNA, usually —- nucleotides long
Transfer RNA (tRNA) ,70-90
It carries the correct amino acid to the site of protein synthesis
Transfer RNA (tRNA)
A major constituent of ribosomes on which the mRNA binds
Ribosomal RNA (rRNA)
The rRNA ensures the
proper alignment of the mRNA and the ribosomes
happens when the ribosome reaches the stop codons
Terminations
The polypeptide produces from this process passes through the
endoplasmic reticulum or Golgi apparatus
