Protein Synthesis Flashcards
Transcription
from DNA to pre mRNA
Rna Processing
changes made before RNA leaves nucleus. cap and tail are added, introns are taken out and exons are spliced together.
Translation
Promoter
not primer; where RNA polymerase binds
RNA Polymerase
adds new RNA nucleotides to create pre-mRNA
coding strand
DNA strand with the same nucleotide sequence as the pre-mRNA being made (besides the thymine, which is uracil in the RNA)
template strand
this DNA strand is read and used to make the pre-mRNA
transcription stop point
tells where to stop transcription, is on the DNA
tata box
transcription factors
mRNA
messenger RNA
5’ cap
protects RNA, is where mRNA attaches to ribosome
poly-A tail
protects RNA (more adenine makes it last longer), helps guide mRNA out of nucleus
intron
are edited out
exon
are spliced together
