protein roles: enzymes and cell transport Flashcards
what is homeostasis and why is it important?
homeostasis is the body’s maintenance of a stable internal environment. it is important as cells can only live in a very narrow range of conditions.
what are the four components of homeostasis
- change(stimuli) 2. Receptors detect the change 3. control center 4.
effectors
explain component 1
change is anything that requires a cell to react ex) change in temperature, pressure or chemical composition. occurs constantly in and around the cells of living organisms.
explain component 2
receptors detect change and then alert the proper control center
explain component 3
has ideal numerical condition value (body temperature 37). recieves a signal from the receptors and sends a command to the effector to counteract change
