Prosthodontic Flashcards
What is kennedy class I
Bilateral free end saddle
What is kennedy class III
A BOUNDED SADDLE
Which saddle detemines kennedy classification
The most posterior saddle
What are the three support classifications?
- Class 1 - Tooth borne
- Class 2 - Mucosa borne
- Class 3 - Tooth and mucosa borne
What is meant by retention?
resistance of the denture to vertical displacement
What are some methods of retention used in RPD Design?
clasps
soft tissue undercuts
path of insertion
precision attachments/implants
What is meant by indirect retention?
resistance of the denture to rotational displacement
What is meant by reciprocation in RPDs?
Prevention of a clasp arm moving the clasped tooth
What can you use to record the inter-occlusal record during a jaw reg?
- bite registration paste
- wax wafer
What are the stages in RPD construction?
- primary impressions
- mount and survey study casts
- design denture
- tooth prep if required
- master impression
- jaw registration
- delivery
- review
How deep should rest seats be?
Deep enough to allow a rest of at east 1mm thick
What are guideplanes?
2 or more parallel axial surfaces on abutment teeth which limit the path of insertion of a denture
What do guide planes provide?
- increased stability
- reciprocation
- prevention of clasp formation
- improved appearance
How would you take an impression for enedtulous areas?
using impregum which is a polyether
List the steps involved in master impression?
- try in stage special tray and trim peripheriess if overextended
- modify peripheries with green stick
- modify free end saddles with green stick
- applyy adhesive and use alginate
- disinfect and place in sealed bag
