What are the benefits of replica dentures ?
Minor changes can be possible.
Patient acceptance/adaptation is better.
Patient neuromuscular control better.
One less denture stage.
Jaw registration is usually easier.

What are the disadvantages of replica dentures ?
Major changes are not possible.
Possible to reproduce initial problems.
If there has been ridge resorption since last denture construction can compromise fit.
Have to accept some flaws.
Describe the first clinical stage of replica denture production.
PRIMARY IMPRESSIONS
1. Clean dentures.
2. Modify denture with greenstick if necessary.
3. Take replica impression of denture and fitting surface using lab putty, vaseline and two stock trays.
4. Remove and disinfect.
5. Give denture back to patient.

USE IMPRESSIONS TO CREATE WAX REPLICA BLOCKS ON SHELLAC BASE
1. Shellac base onto fit surface.
2. Pour wax over shellac and into mould.
3. Remove wax from mould = wax blocks on shellac base.

MASTER IMPRESSIONS & JAW REGISTRATION
1. Take upper master impression - light body silicone on fitting surface of denture and seat until set.
2. Take lower master impression - light body silicone on fitting surface of denture and seat until set.
3. Take jaw registration - JetBite on occlusal surface between two blocks and ask patient to bite together, can be removed in whole.
4. Shade and mould.

POUR AND CAST MASTER IMPRESSIONS AND SET TEETH
1. Cast impressions.
2. Mount casts on articulator.
3. Set teeth in wax.

1. Try in set teeth in wax.
2. Try in checks.
3. Make any adjustments.
4. Re-register.

OVD.
Even contacts in occlusion in RVD.
Lower teeth set on centre of lower ridge.

Anterior and posterior occlusal plane.

What are some checks you would carry out at final denture delivery of replica denture delivery ?

- Lip support.
- Base extension.
When should you review a patient after replica denture delivery ?
Within 1-2 weeks.
What should you assess on replica denture review ?
Any intra-oral redness, swelling, ulceration or pain.
Function.
Retention/stability.
Aesthetics.
Re-check OVD and RVD.
Why is a light body silicone used when taking the master impression of fitting surface for replica dentures ?
Prevents compression of soft tissues or space between denture and palate - aiming to reproduce good fit.
More precise.
What are the indications for a replica denture ?
Patient experience discomfort or pain from current denture but is happy with shape and colour and there is only minimal retentive/stability tweaks required.
A replica impression has a lot of denture base showing anteriorly and very little posteriorly (i.e. more impression material) - is this acceptable/unacceptable ? Why ?
Consider this to be unacceptable.
Denture may not be seated properly.
