mark out margins of the restoration on the study cast prep
what is die hardener used to do?
prevents chipping/flaking of the model when carving
what is die relief used to do?
creates space for the luting cement when the inlay is fitted
are the margins of the study cast painted? explain why.
margins of the cast are not painted - ensures an exact fit is achieved
what is the separator used to do?
allows the inlay to be removed from the study model when the carving is complete
how is the wax added to the study model?
using a Le Cron carver - inlay is built up gradually
what is added to the wax to contribute to its brittleness?
carnauba
why should the wax be brittle?
so it easily breaks at the margins
what is used to do the majority of the wax carving?
a cold Le Cron carver
what can help remove the inlay from the study model?
rubber dam
what is the furnace used to do? why is this done?
heat the mould to 900 degrees
the mould must be heated as the molten metal will not flow into a cold mould
what is the centrifugal casting machine used to do?
to melt the metal and force the molten metal into the mould
what is the cutting disc used for?
separates the sprue from the inlay
what is the large pink stone used for?
grinding away the bulk of the metal
what is the small pink stone used for?
more detailed grinding
