Pros and Cons Flashcards
A few couples
- thread cutters
- wingnut spanner
- water sprays
- door handles
Pro and cons of gears
Pros:
1. zero slip drive
2. Mechanically strong.
3. Deliver high transmission efficiency.
4. More compact compared to belts and chains.
Cons:
1. expensive to make
2. needs lubrication
3. can only be used over short distances
Pros and cons of belts
Pros:
1. Direction of driven shaft can easily be change by crossing the belt
2. belt drives are quiet
3. belt drives don’t require lubrication
4. The power output of a belt drive system may be varied
Cons:
1. Belt can slip
2. Short service life if not maintained well.
3. Finite speed range.
4. They need an idler pulley or some adjustment of center distance to compensate for belt stretching and wear.
Pros and cons of chains
Pros:
1. No slip occurs
2. More durable than belts
3. Can be used over bigger distances than gear drives.
Cons:
1. More expensive to install
2. Requires lubrication
3. Noisy
4. Heavier than belts
Lifting devices
- Differential wheel and axle lifting device
- Differential winch
- Weston differential pulley (Block and Tackle)
